The queen lights the first torch of the Jubilee at Windsor-

In the evening, after the historic day that kicked off the solemn Jubilee celebrations in London, Elizabeth II lit the great beacon in Windsor. Despite a “slight discomfort” and the fatigue of the journey from Windsor to London, she will not be at Mass in St Paul with the other Windsors, Elizabeth has kept her promise to light the first torch to celebrate the Jubilee. With a spectacular nocturnal ceremony the sovereign came out of the manor with her cane, eyeglasses and the inevitable white gloves, a relaxed smile, to symbolically light a trail of light that lit the great Windsor torch. In London, Prince William waited for the symbolic gesture of the queen to give light to the great Tree of Trees that is being erected in these days in front of the royal palace.
